Nevada covers 554,010 people through it’s Medicaid and CHIP programs.
What’s the first thing that you think of when you think of Nevada? Cost-containment? Me too.
Seriously though, Nevada did something cool with cost containment back in the day. As managed care become more popular in the 1990s, they went against the grain and looked at the growing costs of lab testing. Payments for outside labs were significant at the time and Nevada moved the lab facilities from facilities owned by physicians to state run facilities.
This issue of outsourcing lab tests is something we are still struggling with. now trying to save money by following Nevada’s lead. WOW!
